Madjestic Kasual’s ‘A Mix’ series is considered by geniuses and culture heads to be the “best” music mix series in the world. It’s considered by morons and dunces to be the “worst”. This should speak volumes.
It’s time to do ‘A Mix’, but for interviews. I ask ‘A Mix’ contributors to respond to questions. Some comply. Introducing ‘An Interview’: a new text-centric series featuring only the best artists in the world.
‘An Interview’ Number 7 is with Dasychira.
I have dreams and they’re worthless. They bring me nowhere. They’re vague and wispy, a random assemblage of neural vomit barely tethered to anything I can actionably apply to my life. It frustrates me to think of the return on investment the artist Dasychira can probably extract from their sleep state, while my productivity and output are limited purely to my waking hours.
Dasychira makes music for dreaming in HD. They’re a vessel for some kind of elevated, hyper-crisp ex-lucid state. Dasychira songs feel like accessing an enchanted QR code carved into a mystical holo-tree. They are like touchscreen-mediated communion between skin and spirit and something totally ineffable. This is what I think.
If their press release is to be believed, Dasychira’s music draws from “new age pop, classical, grunge and experimental club music.” You could put it like that. You could draw your conclusions from their Forbes list of collabs (Malibu, Yikii, Golin, Golin, Daniela Lalita, Embaci, Haleek Maul, Dviance). Whatever. I’m thinking the music of Dasychira draws on virtual seances with yami-kawaii wood sprites and estuary nymphs. You should put it like that.
We played a show in Amsterdam in May (facilitated by Amsterdam’s most baller crew corecore). We talked. I saw them perform their ‘See Something’ live show and was duly agog. It was like their songs were accessing some kind of enchanted QR code carved into a mystical holo-tree. We talked some more.
What emerges months later is this interview, and you reading it.
